Encinitas Garden Festival & Tour Highlights Cardiff Community and Offers Education on Garden Edibles, Water Wise Plants, and Native Options
Encinitas, Calif. (January 29, 2009) – The Fourth Annual Encinitas Garden Festival & Tour is set to take place in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, a community of Encinitas, on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This all-day celebration of Encinitas’ community, gardening and horticultural heritage features a self-guided walking tour of more than 20 exceptional private gardens in addition to a marketplace of vendors, artists, boutique plant growers, and educational opportunities.
This year’s marketplace will offer festival-goers products and information for improving their gardens while also doing their part to preserve the environment. There will be guest speakers throughout the day offering seminars on topics such as starting a vegetable garden to getting rid of your lawn, installing a low water landscape, and gardening alongside natural spaces. The marketplace is free and open to the public. From the marketplace, ticket-holders will ride a double-decker bus into a Cardiff neighborhood for a walking tour of hand-selected, private gardens.
Parking is located at the Mira Costa College San Elijo Campus parking lot where festival participants board buses for the ride to the Gardeners’ Marketplace, located in the “heart” of Cardiff-by-the-Sea at Cardiff Elementary School.
A portion of the proceeds go towards the Encinitas Garden Festival & Tour Fund at the Coastal Community Foundation. Funds raised are donated back into the Encinitas community through a special gardening book collection based at the new Encinitas library, public landscaping and improvement projects, etc.
While the Marketplace is free and open to the public, garden admission is by ticket only. Tickets purchased in advance cost $21 for adults and $7 for children (10 and under). The event is expected to sell out, but if tickets are still available on festival day, adult tickets will be $25, children tickets will be $10.
