Come visit downtown Encinitas at the 26th Annual Encinitas Street Fair. Take advantage of free family fun, entertainment, a National Award Winning MainStreet and a traditional So-Cal beach town.

This fair keeps getting better and better. As part of DEMA’s Free and Affordable Family Fun Program we will be expanding the street fair by adding extra activities for children courtesy of Magical Child, four live music stages, an extensive recycling effort, and we will have the “All Time Top Brewery on Planet Earth”, according to BeerAdvocate magazine, hosting our beer garden. This fair will draw over 100,000 shoppers to this two-day event and will feature over 450 unique vendors, including clothes, accessories, plants, household products, environmental products, art, antiques and home decor.

This year, the title sponsor for the 26th Annual Street Fair is Johnsonville Brats. Johnsonville Brats is bringing their world famous Big Taste Grill to Downtown Encinitas. This grill is 65 feet tall, 54,000 pounds and holds claim as the world’s largest grill. It has the ultimate grill which can cook 750 bratwurst at a time or 2,500 brats an hour. One dollar of every brat purchased at the Street Fair will go to the DEMA Scholarship Fund which will create a scholarship for one San Dieguito Academy High School Student and one La Costa Canyon High School Student.www.bigtastegrill.com Come out and buy a brat! The Green Scene
This year our Beer Garden will be sponsored by Stone Brewing Company which has been ranked as the “All Time Top Brewery on Planet Earth” by BeerAdvocate Magazine. We will have Stone Brewing Company’s top selling and most revered beers including Stone Pale Ale, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Stone Levitation Ale, and the immaculate Stone India Pale Ale. Stone Brewing Company will also be bringing their delivery truck powered by bio-diesel and representatives from their company to educate beer drinkers on what’s in their cup as well as the Stone Brewing Company philosophy. DEMA with the help of Stone will also be encouraging beer garden patrons to re-use their cup for their second glass of beer as part of our reduce reuse recycle initiative. Stone Brewing Company will have special posters to remind beer lovers to help respect the earth by recycling. Those who re-use their cup will receive a raffle ticket for each time they re-use and we will be raffling off fun prizes throughout the day. In 2008, beer garden customers cut their cup usage by one third. Our goal for 2009 is to reduce our waste in the beer garden by another third. Check out Stone Brewing Company on the web, www.stonebrew.com, for more information on the “All Time Top Brewery on Planet Earth.” Be sure to tip generously at the Stone Beer Garden because the tip money on Saturday will go to Encinitas Environment Day www.eeday.org and on Sunday to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America www.ccfa.org. Volunteers from each organization will be serving your beer in order to earn tip money and the earnings will go to their respective charities!

Look for the Blue Bins!

Look for the blue ClearStream recycling bins at the street fair. The City of Encinitas will be lending the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association 100 ClearStream recycling bins to capture glass, aluminum and plastic at the street fair. These bins were purchased through a joint grant between the City of Encinitas and DEMA from the Department of Conservation. By using ClearStream bins, we hope to divert waste from the landfill into recycling centers. There will be signs posted, encouraging people to drop their recyclables in the blue bin!

This year the street fair will have a brand new Kid’s Zone organized by Magical Child www.magicalchild.com, located in the Lumberyard parking lot between H and I Streets. All day Magical Child will be handing out 10% off coupons for their store and in conjunction with the local non-profit Boobs on the Move hosting the most exciting kids zone in San Diego! The 2009 Kid’s Zone will include an H2O station, cupcake decorating, biodegradable balloons, coloring, eco house building, hula hooping, jump rope, and face painting! Bring your kids out for this exciting and free event sponsored by Magical Child.

On Saturday, April 25th come out for the Encinitas Fire Department’s Annual Pancake Breakfast. The Encinitas Fire Department will set up in the 7-11 Parking Lot located at D Street and Hwy 101 and will cook pancakes from 7am until 11am. Stop by and eat a delicious breakfast that goes to support our local firefighters.
