First Annual Environmental Film Festival

Welcome to the Wild and Scenic Film Festival part of DEMA’s First Annual Cottonwood Creek Environmental Film Festival. The Cottonwood Creek Environmental Film Festival is DEMA’s way to bring environmental awareness to the community through film. Come celebrate the earth at this three-day interactive event June 6th, 7th and 8th, 2008 in downtown Encinitas.

A little bit about Patagonia presents the Wild and Scenic Film Tour…

The Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival supports the critical work of California's most effective watershed protection organization, the South Yuba River Citizens League based in Nevada City California. By taking their home festival on tour, they hope to bring the message and social obligation of these films to a larger audience. They believe, as do we, that film is a powerful medium and is a common ground that everyone enjoys. When placed in this setting, environmentally conscious films can foster an open forum where people of different opinions can start finding solutions.

A little bit about the Cottonwood Creek Environmental Film Festival…

The Cottonwood Creek Environmental Film Festival is named in honor of the Encinitas watershed, “Cottonwood Creek.” After a major clean up and native plant restoration effort by the city of Encinitas, local organizations and residents, Cottonwood Creek is in great condition. The environmental restoration of the Cottonwood Creek watershed was an environmental triumph, for this reason we wanted to name our environmental film festival after this symbol of positive environmentalism.

The festival is a three-day event with an opening reception and V.I.P. (Very Important Planet) party on June 6th. Enjoy a full day of fun on June 7th at the La Paloma Theatre featuring films from Patagonia Presents the Wild and Scenic Film Tour as well as two feature films, Who Killed the Electric Car and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap Box. The Surfrider Foundation will be hosting a free sunset screening of environmental coastal films as well. Our final day June 8th will feature films made by local community members.
