DEMA FUND
This year marks DEMA’s 20th anniversary and to mark the occasion, we would like to give our community, in particular the downtown which we serve, the gift of a permanent public sculpture. DEMA is proud to be working with nationally renowned sculptress and local resident, Manuelita Brown, to bring her bronze sculpture, the Encinitas Child, to the South Coast Highway in downtown Encinitas.
The sculpture depicts a young girl waving to those entering our downtown as she casually sits on the wall that lines the highway. We believe that it will encompass the following:
Imagination and Creativity of Youth
Children are filled with an abundance of imagination and creativity, the Encinitas Child seeks to remind us to let children play and to provide opportunities for them to express those gifts, to celebrate the innocence of youth.
The Next Generation
The Encinitas Child reminds us that our greatest obligation as parents is to provide a better world for our children. To nourish, protect, guide and prepare our children as inheritors of our earth.
The Ladies of Encinitas
Women have played a central role in the history and formation of downtown Encinitas and Encinitas in general. While the Encinitas Child depicts no one single person, it portrays equally, all of the women who have contributed greatly to make Encinitas the special place that it is.
Your Interpretation
When viewing the Encinitas Child, if the art creates an emotion, reaction, thought, or remembrance for the viewer, then the interpretation of the artwork is a gift to the artist and the Encinitas Child.
All donations to this project are tax deductible.
