September 29. 2011 – ADA Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG), originally published in 1994, outline Federal requirements and guidelines for providing proper accessibility for individuals with disabilities. There have been several revisions to the guidelines since 1994. In order for the City to meet current ADAAG standards, the Coast Hwy between D Street and I Street will require upgrades. These include improving existing pedestrian ramps and the addition of new pedestrian ramps and six ADA compliant parking spaces.
Work is scheduled to begin October 17 and end mid-January, 2012. There will be parking disruptions during this period so DEMA has arranged for informal weekly meetings with Greg Shields, Engineering Department, to answer questions and keep downtown businesses informed as to what to expect.
The meetings will be held each at 8am each Wednesday beginning October 12th at the Potato Shack, 120 West I Street.
Working together and with the City should help to make this project as painless as possible.
